Tally Export › Tally import from Excel
From an Excel register to Tally
Bills made in another program, or a register kept in Excel? Fill our template, one row per voucher, and convert it to the same Tally files.
The columns
| Column | What to type | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Date | DD/MM/YYYY | 05/11/2026 |
| Voucher Type | Sales, Purchase, Credit Note, Debit Note, Receipt or Payment | Sales |
| Voucher No | Bill, note or receipt number | INV/26-27/101 |
| Party, Party State | Customer or supplier | Shree Traders |
| Taxable Value, CGST, SGST, IGST, Round Off | For bills and notes | 37400 · 0 · 0 · 1870 · 0 |
| Total | Bill total, or the amount of a receipt or payment | 39270 |
| Cash or Bank | For receipts and payments | Bank |
| Against Bill No | For receipts and payments: the bill they settle | INV/26-27/101 |
| Narration | Any note (write "purchase" in it for a debit note on a purchase) |
How each row is booked
- Sales: party Dr total; Sales, Output CGST/SGST/IGST Cr; round off either side.
- Purchase: Purchase, Input CGST/SGST/IGST Dr; party Cr total.
- Credit Note: the reverse of a sale (goods returned by a customer).
- Debit Note: an extra charge to a customer, or, with "purchase" in the narration, goods returned to a supplier.
- Receipt: Cash or Bank Dr, party Cr. Payment: party Dr, Cash or Bank Cr.
If a bill's taxable value plus taxes plus round off doesn't equal its total, the row is refused with its row number, because Tally would refuse the voucher.
Worked example
| Date | Type | No | Party | Taxable | IGST | Total | Bank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 05/11/2026 | Sales | INV/26-27/101 | Shree Traders | 37,400 | 1,870 | 39,270 | |
| 06/11/2026 | Receipt | RC/26-27/014 | Shree Traders | 20,000 | Bank |
Two vouchers: the sale leaves Shree Traders owing ₹39,270; the receipt, against INV/26-27/101, brings it down to ₹19,270 in Tally's bill-wise outstanding.
TallyPrime (Release 4.0 and later) can also import Excel files itself, with its own templates or mapping. Use whichever suits your accountant.
