How to send your bills to TallyPrime
If your accountant keeps the books in TallyPrime, you do not need to type bills twice. Make two XML files here (ledgers and vouchers) and import them in Tally.
Step by step
- Choose what to send. Saved documents (business and dates), or an Excel register filled from the template.
- Check the ledger names. Open Ledger names in your Tally and type the names the Tally company uses, like "Sales GST 18%" or "HDFC Bank". They are remembered.
- Press Make the Tally files. Download the ledgers file and the vouchers file.
- Back up Tally. Take a backup in TallyPrime first; say Yes if Tally offers one while importing.
- Import masters first. In TallyPrime: Alt + O (Import) › Masters › path of the ledgers file.
- Then vouchers. Alt + O › Transactions › path of the vouchers file. Check the Day Book.
Worked example
October: 46 sales invoices, 3 credit notes, 18 receipts. The vouchers file holds 67 vouchers; after import, Tally's Day Book for October shows all 67, and party ledgers sit under Sundry Debtors with your groups.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Importing vouchers before ledgers. Tally refuses vouchers for unknown ledgers. Import masters first.
- Ledger names differ from Tally. Tally creates new ledgers; set the names before making the files.
